Tip for oregano/marjoram seedlings
« on: July 23, 2011, 20:43 »
A few weeks ago I posted a question about the oregano seedlings I had grown being tiny and being too small for me to prick out .I did try to prick them out and noticed that the roots were very strong for the size of seedling.

i hit on the idea of sowing some more in a really deep box (6 inch deep) which I know may sound disproportionate to the size of the seed/seedling but it has worked. The root has shot down about 3-4 inches and the seedling itself developed large enough to be easy to prick out(in about 14 days, amazing).I reckon the first lot were stuntted because the roots didn't have enough space to develop.

So to cut a long story short sow oregano in a much deeper box/tray then you'd think they need or you'll have tiny seedlings which are a pain to try and prick out(Then again most of the first lot that I did prick out did survive it's just the second lot were much less hastle)
