I transplant swede and beetroot this way so I don't see why not turnip.  Check though if they start to run to seed, which they may have a tendency to if transplanted.

Its not too late to sow some direct also as they only take a few weeks to mature

Yes I have transplanted very successfully, but only when quite small.
