she will let you and her chicks know when she has had enough of them until then leave them with her. Is she just aggressive because she has been broody and has chicks to defend?
Staffies are softer than you think.

what she was doing was perfectly normal it's just her sorting out the pecking order and you just have to let them sort it out. It is nasty to watch but part of owning chickens I'm afraid.

My boy is just naturally at the top, and so it does not stop the girls all occasionally having a spat between themselves.  How old are the chicks? As long as ine have enough room, they don't fight.  Have you tried having the chicks out with mum if they are big enough (4/5 weeks) so they can get used to being around the others?  I'm not sure if this is a brilliant idea - I'm sure Joy will say if she has anything better

...onslaught of Big Momma!  We didn't call her this because she is small as you can imagine!

It always seems to go that way   sorry I can't help, just good luck!  ;)

until the pecking order has been established it will not resove the situation and keeping her in a run on her own really is not right. Also don't keep letting her sit on eggs - it really does take it out of a hen as for 3 weeks they don't eat or exercise enough, they can also become prone to lice and mites.

if they are on an allotment then really you shouldn't have cockerels - they don't normally allow them and legally you have no rights if they say you can't keep one.
