newbie- with a dead strimmer
« on: July 18, 2011, 12:17 »
Hi

We bought a new mountfield 40cc 2 stroke strimmer used it once and put the wrong fuel in, well we thought we hadnt BUT I just got a call off the repair guys who said there was no oil on the ?carbereta? and it was beyond economical repair.

My husband had a serious head injury and has had to restart life as a gardener with help for heros who paid for the tool so you can imagine that this is a blow. :(

Is there anything we can do?

Thanks

Andrea

Welcome to the forum :)

Can you remember what fuel you put in? It should be unleaded mixed with two stroke oil to give you the right mixture?

If the correct fuel mixture was put in, then the statement from the repair shop makes little sense, and all I could think of is there is a mechanical fault with it when you bought it.

But If there was no oil put in the mixture (or the correct fuel) then I daresay it will indeed be beyond economic repair.

I have to agree with flatcat. I'm pretty sure the Mountfield strimmer is a two stroke,so if the repair guys didn't find any oil in the carb, it's very likely that there wasn't any in the petrol.
I would say that the machine is kaput.

Did the engine seize solid so that you could not `pull it over`?.

Also what part of the country do you live  ?

You may be only one person in the world,  but you may also be the world to one person.

therin lies the problem - beyond economic repair - though it is probably not too difficult to repair, the cost of time for labour to do it means its cheaper to buy a new one, maybe try and find someone locally who will do it as a favour for the cost of parts and a bottle of beer?

I'm going to sound like a little girl but my dad came with me and the engineer showed him the spark plug as a demonstration...My dad wasnt keen so we took the strimmer for a second opinion and they took to to pieces and said it was fine that the problem was further down the line and was nothing to do with the the oil mix

Long story short its getting fixed by the the first guys for free due to the wrong diagnosis and it being under warrenty I get the parts free

Bad guys tho taking my money and then lying to us
