garlic

Got a reasonable crop although bulbs are smallish and left them to dry on a wire mesh frame for a few sunny days. Unfortunately the rain came before I could move them so now I've brought them inside damp and strung them up in the kitchen.
When I harvested I found some stalks had detached from the bulbs and I had to furtle to dig them up and quite a few bulbs are not covered with the papery outside layer leaving open cloves. They seem healthy though.
I'm wondering if I pulled them too soon, but there again, the rotting halms might mean a disease so will they keep ok if I can dry them?

Garlic as a bulb plant does like plenty of moisture whilst growing, and we have had a dry start to the year in the U.K. A light feed every couple of weeks helps as well.
Mine were like that last year, worst year for ages.
When the stems start to go yellow that is about right for picking.
As mentioned dropping the clove is no detriment, most likely pop up next year.
