Wait until it's dusk/dark and he'll go to bed by his self?  ;)

no experience with cockerels but chickens will usually follow mealworms, we throw them in their run, close the door behind them and voila!  Otherwise wait until later to try, it is very light tonight and he probably doesnt think its bed time!
3 dogs, 8 chickens, 4 rabbits 2 guinea pigs, 10 quail, 2 fish and a demanding daughter who has gone to uni and left me with 29 animals to care for!!=)

8pm is a bit early to expect him to go to bed on his own.  Can't you wait until he goes by himself?

Brian always goes out to ours too early, and ends up chasing them around the run!  I go out 10 minutes later and they've all gone to bed!

i like the idea of the meal worms to temp them in but i doubt i could get close enough to my Araucana, cock and hen to give it to them. i bought them at auction last weekend they are not friendly chooks they dont want anything to do with me lol, i dont think it helps that i now have to trap and catch them every day.

not in this weather as they would get too hot. Sorry but do you not have an enclosed run to get them into?
Staffies are softer than you think.
