beetroot pests

Hi all
My beetroot has looked fantastic until recently, when I noticed the leaves of a couple of them turning brown.

When I turned the leaves upside down, I saw clumps of hundreds of tiny bluey grey bugs.  It's mostly at one end of the patch.  One of the smaller plants had died and the bulb looked all deformed.

I've pulled up a few of the worst ones, they are already reasonable sized beetroots so I've just pulled them up a bit early.  The other end of the patch looks ok at the mo,

Should I get rid of the whole lot now before I lose them?  Or is there anything I can do to get rid of these bugs?

I don't know what the bugs are, but I don't see the need to throw away beetroot that is at present perfectly good.  You could freeze it before or after roasting, or make a cake, or chutney, or ... or ...
