hens turning on long time buddy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hello there.  is there anyone out there who could give me some advice on why hens turn on each other after living in harmony for over a year?  we have 2 sets of hens. in one coop we have our oldest hens, 2 bantams and a bovan.  they have always got on famously, tho drummers the bovan has always been in charge, even sleeping on their branch perch in the middle with a bantam under each of her wings.  they have always stuck together and are a comedy to watch when we let them and the other hens out together, they stick together and don't let the other hens get away with anything.  now however the bovan has taken to seriously picking on one of the bantams.  the other bantam has joined in and they are both torrorising her.  we have separated her from them for the night. she shows no sign of illness but we are wondering if the other hens have picked up on this or does anyone know of any other reason this would be happpening? and how do we know when to re introduce her safely? i know hens have a way of sorting their own squabbles out but it has come out of the blue and is as much of a puzzle as it is a worry. thanks for reading this.

perhaps she has tried to become the top hen. You really shouldn't remove the victim but the main bully (keep her in sight say in a dog cage) for a few days.
Staffies are softer than you think.

thank you joyfull, had removed her as it was both of the others bullying her but it makes sense that the main one gets removed and the other one will hopefully calm down, thanks
