Purely self-indulgent photos of my flock
« on: July 01, 2011, 00:22 »
Here are my lovely chickens.  These photos were taken on mid-winter's day - 22 June.  The following day Patience began laying her lovely eggs - 5 so far, due for another one today!  :D

This is Phoebe the Barred Plymouth Rock:

Here is Pearl the Light Sussex (and the youngest of the flock):

Pearl and her big sister Sylvia can often be found hunting for bugs together:

Sylvia is the Chicken in Charge:

This is Minnie-Rose the Barnevelder:

And Patience who laid her first egg the day after this photo:

And finally these are three of Patience's first four eggs (she laid egg #1 on the concrete path and broke it!):

Aren't Barnevelder eggs just beautiful?

Hillfooter, you should have seen Sylvia after her dust bath yesterday!  ::)  I thought someone had replaced my white chicken with a greyish-brown one!

I'm lucky to have enough space that they have grass to roam around on all day.  Even in their run (which you can see behind Sylvia) there's enough organic matter that it never gets really muddy underfoot.  Mind you, we still have the wettest days of winter to come so I hope I haven't spoken too soon!  ???

Thank you for all your kind comments.  Chickens are such a delight to have around the garden -  the best garden ornaments ever!  And such little characters.

I can eat the first egg on 12 July.  :(

For those who don't know, there was an accidental contamination at one of the major poultry feed plants in NZ and we have been advised not to eat the eggs for 14 days after the chickens have stopped eating that brand of feed.

There are lots of eggs being binned in New Zealand at the moment.  :(

andreadon, Patience has been teaching me patience since before she came to live with me (gosh she kept me waiting!)  She has been sent to test me!   ;)

You have a lovely flock there Lindeggs  :)
It is such a shame that you can't eat the eggs yet.  They look wonderfully edible.

They do look edible don't they?!  :tongue2: (Where's the drooling smiley?)

Unfortunately I can't even feed them to the neighbour's dog so they all have to go in the bin. :( I'm up to six lovely eggs now.

Well I suppose I could feed toxic eggs to the neighbour's dog but that wouldn't be very neighbourly...  :nowink:

HF

 HF you're so naughty!  ::)

I do have a MIL and she is going to be one of the main recipients of my healthy eggs when they come along.   She is the sweetest, most adorable 85-year-old you've ever met.  She uses a lot of eggs baking for her beloved grand children (when she's not knitting blankets for the prem babies in the local hospital).

If I started giving her toxic eggs I would be about the most unpopular person in the universe!   :tongue2:

You're right to be self-indulgent ... after all, how else will we see them? Invites??

I'd love to list all mine like that but every time I try more than 1 photo I'm told the file size is too big - how do you do it? PM would probably be best...

Hi Catsmuvva, the photo thing is easy so I will share it here.

I have signed up with ImageShack so I load my photos there, then just copy and paste the IMG codes here.  By hosting the photos elsewhere, I can post multiple photos here and they can be bigger.

Any photo hosting site would work - PhotoBucket is another good one.

I dont have chickens so dont know much but i do like yours. I like Sylvia best.

And just a note to all the chicken owners on here i do like looking at the pics you all post.
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.
