Blight Warning
« on: June 26, 2011, 23:17 »
Hi all,
I've received a blight warning for my area (Coulsdon, Surrey) this afternoon. What do I do now?!
Does the warning of a smith period mean definate blight, or should I either keep my fingers crossed or take some kind of preventative measure?
    Cheers, Dicci.

Not necessarily, but it quite often means blight. It only means, the perfect conditions for blight to occur on your crop.

Taking precautions is advisable. Otherwise, there is little point to subscribe for a warning, is there?

Off thread but I used to work and live at Netherne Hospital! Just looking over posts and saw yours. Good luck with the blight mate!

Have a look at this thread.

http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=56717.0

You obviously are familiar with some of the advice as you're registered to receive Smith Period warnings.

Use these in conjunction with the link to the blight map which will show if there is any blight near you. At the moment there are no outbreaks reported in the UK.

The two together will enable you to judge better whether to take any action.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

If you read the thread I posted, a few up, you'll find a link to a thread that tells you how to find out everything you need to know for yourself.

You'll also see that I said there are no reported outbreaks anywhere in the UK.
