Do lemons need the sun's rays to ripen, or is it heat?

Got a good crop on one of my indoor plants and need to know whether to move it or not, please

According to this, you need more sun than heat to ripen lemons, so move them outside if you think they're hardened off enough to take direct sun rays.

Thanks Trilliium. I shall do that, as I have some good fat lemons now, albeit green so far
