Some of my potatoes had grooves like that, I thought that I must have skimped when I stone picked before I planted and they had grown against the stones - what actually causes the problem ?

Nah, I wouldn't tell you that, Shaun. I'd say it was mutton disguised as beef      Actually, McDonalds is not the biggest spud buyer in Canada. But they are the biggest pain in the a** though.    The point is that the poor farmers get very railroaded by the buyers and earn next to nothing these days. Despite the size of Canada and amount of arable land, too many farmers are going bankrupt too quickly and soon commercial  agriculture will be suffering here.

I can just picture you step-marching all those spuds into their sacks

so when do we get some clearer shots of your spuds? I'd like to see the so-called virus that's on them. Thankfully we don't get blight or such here, but it's interesting to know in case it ever does show up.

Can we have a pic of a peeled and cut potato please Munty?

Well done to your son for the hard work.

All I can say is I wish I were there to help with those potatoes   ......... We are currently buying 7.5 kgs for £6.50 from riverford. It was £5.00 or £5.50 a few months ago. And that's better than the farmer's market, where organic potatoes are £1.20 per kg!!! Supers are cheaper, are rarely locally produced (suprise suprise!!!), but absolutely tasteless. We had luch at my in-laws this afternoon. The potatoes were like fleshy water - No taste whatsoever, I couldn't really eat them

I'm definitely planting taters next year  :!:

Trying organic gardening. Hoping to stick to it.

are you sure?

google search shows "rhyacionia " to be "pine tip moth" (an insect) rather than anything viral.
