Runner beans
« on: June 24, 2011, 13:27 »
Hello all,
I am new to the forum and to my allotment!  I took it over in November last year and already have had lots of lettuces and spinach!  My question is about my runner bean plants.  I started them off in my greenhouse but some of them are only about 6 inches tall and  have got two shoots.  They have definitely not been damaged and there is definitely only one bean!  Do I let both shoots grow or take one of them out please?
Thanks so much!

Welcome to the forum.  I've never bothered removing extra shoots but you can if you like.  Just remove the weakest one.  There is some very good information here.

Just leave them to it - they know what they're doing!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Welcome, I've had the same thing happen this year 2 plants growing from a single seed. I even removed some compost to make sure, but yes only one seed.
I've never seen that before  :D

But I've just left them to get on with it and they're doing fine :)
