hen pecked??
« on: June 24, 2011, 10:43 »
Hi all,so pleased to have found this site! I have 5 ex-Batts, i've had my girls 2 weeks tomorrow. On wednesday I noticed one (Daisy ) Would not come out of the coop, up until then all 5 were keen as mustard to get into the garden. Anyway, yesterday she still would'nt come out, realy thought I was going to lose her. I'd put food and water in for her.
Yesterday afternoon she laid an egg had a poo then laid another egg, she must have been egg bound! She came out with the others then, I had a good cuddle with her and I noticed a bald patch around her neck and this morning she again refused to come out of the coop! I'm flummoxed, I have not noticed any drastic henpecking but could this be the problem? Or could it be something more sinister??
She does not look 'ill', she looks cowed. Any advice would be soooo appreciated. Thank you.

Did one of the eggs have a soft shell?   This can make hens feel under the weather.
Have you checked for "little visitors" (worms lice redmite etc)?
When was the last time you wormed her?
Good luck and keep us posted.

Maybe if you posted a photo of the bald spot it might help those much more experienced than me to help you with a quick solution?
Good luck.

Eggs were normal, can't see any sign of 'little visitors'! I clean coop and spray for redmite regulary. used flubenvet for worms when we first got my girls 2 weeks ago. I will try to post a pic but I am a bit of a computer phobe!!!! I was really gutted this morning when Daisy was back to square one! Thank you all. It is a relief to know there is help at hand.xx
