i had 14 duck eggs, all was going well til 3 days before hatching 3 hatched and the rest didn't.. one exploded .  What a smell.   does anyone know why my sucess was limited to 3.  all the ducks in the eggs were fully developed   I feel awful..

Only a suggestion but the egg that exploded may have infected some of the others. There are many reasons why a hatch rate is not good and very experienced people have this problem sometimes as well.

here are a few reasons why you may have had problems  :-

breed of duck - call ducks can struggle breaking out of their shells,

wrong humidity - this can cause the membrane to dry up and this makes it hard for them to get out of the shell,

If one of the eggs exploded then as the shells are porous the gasses will have impregnated the other eggs and killed the others off - this one is probably the most likely cause,

bacteria on the shells or in the incubator.
