Planting through cardboard
« on: June 17, 2011, 22:25 »
Weeding my allotment (takes an ~hour on a good day) now that it is all clear, im wondering if collecting a large! amount of cardboard and planting seedlings through it, with a bunch of slug pellet traps (large holes in a container with a few slug pellets in it), in order to counter act the fact that slugs and snails loveeeeeeeeeee cardboard.

as long as the plants can get to a decent enough size before overwhelmed being devoured by slugs i think it should work, if not feasible i could always just stick alliums through the cardboard.

Your thoughts are appreciated

I think i will do what i always do when i cant decide. do both, i can compare the two and see if there is any increased damage to those which are mulched to those which are. if there is the same amount of damage or lack there of, i will cardboard with slug pellet traps for the rest of my life :tongue2:. i plant, i water, i harvest :) everyones happy.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of slugs around on my plot this year.  Probably something to do with having 3 months of drought. ;)

I reckon the permafrost over winter got a lot of mine.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
