any ideas on where to get the seed contadino ?

You're lucky in the UK.  Have a look at realseeds.co.uk.  They have several varieties suited to the UK climate.

have found the amaranth seed pack

it comes from germany is organic and cost 1.48 euro for 250g but we got it for free because it wasn't selling.

i just give it to the girls as a bit of a treat, in such a small package it  would be expensive to use as their main food - i guess you could get it in bulk from other source?

it's from ''hemp and things'' food store, www.hempcottage.com and is packed by ''munster wholefoods''

Same story here. My crew goes through 150 pounds (3 bags) a week. Lay pellets range from 11-15 dollars a bag. Hay is pushing $13 a bale.  We are getting told that the farmers are all selling their corn (maise) for fuel not feed or food. I'm not in a grain growing area, so all our grain comes clear from the mid-west. The profits from ethenol are so high the Mexicans are plowing under the agave fields to plant corn..D....! they are not even leaving me the tequila to kill the pain

both amaranth and quinoa seeds are cooked and eaten like a porridge, and can also be put into whole grain breads. Very healty stuff. The Mayan and Aztec peoples of mexico lived on it for generations.
