Hi all any ideas on what sex this lovely chook is, i had a mixed batch of eggs and i think its a silver laced wyandotte but correct me if i'm wrong. It is 8 weeks old but i have a feeling its a roo.

1 Bluebell, 1 Magpie Maran, 2 Goldlines, 1 Light Sussex, 1 Exchequer Leghorn, 1 Buff Sussex, 1 Chocolate Orpington, 2 Wellsummers, 1 white leghorn cross and 1 Crested Cream Legbar. Not forgetting my 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 rabbits and my sons rats

thank you Aunt Sally you did make me giggle. I have never had a wyandotte chook before and didn't realise they have rose combs, my husband will be happy :)

 He's from Newcastle and anything that is black and white in colour he says is his, especially when its a pullet. He has a magpie maran called maggie, not sure what he's gonna call this one

Is that a rose comb, or a pea comb?  I thought rose combs were rounder looking, it's a pretty chick whatever it is!

It's a rose comb, and at 8 weeks old, that is a cockerel (judging by the wattle growth)

Are they bantams or large fowl?

I found  my bantams hard to sex last year, I have more of an idea now... and thanks for ruining the image of them for me (being maggies)  :tongue2: (from a mackem!)

i did think it was a cockerel, shame really we wanted to keep him. Our neighbours don't mind hens, prob because they get free eggs from us ( and to keep them happy) but cockerels i think i wud be pushing it a bit. My husband just said black and white looks better than red and white  ::) ::)
And it is a large fowl wyandotte, it was a pick and mix from a guy near us, a very handsome young cockerel.
