One of my Aracaunas - Chima - has shared brooding duties with Roxanne the Muscovy. We initially tried to keep her away but it was impossible. Flying over stable roof and even being shut away on her own for a couple of days. We gave up and she has sat there for 32 days now.
Has anyone else had the same thing happen as I'd like to know what will happen when the ducklings are hatched?

I'm not an expert and I have never kept ducks.  I have read about mother ducks that raised ducklings.  I think what will happen is that whichever ducklings hatch out will be shared between the two broodies.  I think broody hen will be a little panicky when the ducklings head for the water and may try to jump in herself to rescue them so you may need to watch out for that.  In any case good luck and hope you have a good hatching.  Keep us posted.  :)
Lovely picture by the way  :D

I wonder, had the hen  been laying in the same nest as the muscovy

I've never had a hen and duck share a clutch of eggs but i've had an Appleyard and Mallard and when the ducklings hatched they went about all together and did a good job.  :)

But on two occasions its not worked out so well.
A Muscovy stole the nest from a pair of Canada geese.  The poor female goose sat beside the nest while the Muscovy sat on the eggs.  Only one very weak gosling hatched which the Muscovy  abandoned and the geese claimed it.  It died after three days and the mother goose died a couple of days later.  :(
Then there was another Muscovy who stole a nest of Appleyard eggs.  The Appleyards let her sit on the eggs and she hatched about 5 if I remember right.  But as soon as the Muscovy left the nest with the ducklings the Appleyards bullied her until she was driven off and they claimed their babies, amazingly the ducklings seemed to accept the situation.  Seems incredible but true.
It seems to me that muscovies are a bit prone to pinching

Good luck with your pair, I hope it works out.

the Araucana had indeed been laying her eggs in the Muscovy nest. We had tried to stop her but to no avail and we didn't have a cockerel at that time so we just took her eggs out as they would have been infertile.

I guess she thinks they are hers. I'm hoping very much that they will share the babies.  We don't have a pond for them but for the tiddlers I just fill a cat litter tray each day ( clean of course!)  and put a slate step inside and out so they get in and out no matter how small they are and they don't have the water unless I'm there with them for the first couple of weeks.

I'm sorry to hear the story about the goose and her gosling Spana, very sad. I would be very upset to lose any of mine.

my friend has a welsummer that went broody, and her best friend, a bluebell sat with her during the whole sitting and hatching stage.  Only one egg hatched, and they both walk round protecting the baby!  It's so sweet, hope it all works out well!  :D :D :D
