A neighbour told me to do this but, as an anglais in very rural France, I suspected, well...a piss-take. However, first thing every morning it's bladder time behind the coop.
We've no foxes but there are other nasties in the woods: martens, for instance. Whilst we've had no attacks of the four-legged variety (discounting a dog), it doesn't work for buzzards, though :-(

Does it work as a deterrent for the predators?

Within the limits of my experience, only for foxes. The human male hormone testosterone can be effective in urban areas, ( as in built up areas immature male humans tend to pee everywhere so foxes get used to it). No idea about other predators, but suspect not.

I bet your neighbours would get a shock, they might think you are peeing on the chickens
