sorry to hear of your problems, are there any poisonous plants in the garden that the hens could have eaten ? I know of hens dieing from eating deadly nightshade. There's probably a list of plants that pose a danger on this site.

Gapeworm (not affected by verm-x at all) will kill birds very suddenly from suffocation.
