Poultry Equipment Suppliers in Nottingham/Derby
« on: September 07, 2007, 08:48 »
Morning Poultry lovers,

Do we have members in the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire area who know of any local poultry equipment suppliers?

I am wanting to extend my run at the weekend so need to source chicken wire at a reasonable cost. I'm also looking for perches and nest boxes.

I'd be most grateful if anyone can help.

Mambo

Morning, get down to your local Wilko's chicken wire about £2.75 for 10m x 60cm.
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Welcome to the forums Mambo  :D

Please don't forget that chicken wire is not fox proof  :!:

If that is what you are using rather than weld mesh, the bottom 3 ft or so should be made double thickness  :!:

If you have a local Thatcher (look in Yellow Pages) I got mine for free, I called him and he gave me the stuff coming off the thatch, its mossy but perfectly good for a run.  If there are any rusty bits you can cut them out but mine was ok.

The ducks had a great time picking the moss off and eating it :)

Hello Mambo, I have found that any builders merchant, or B&Q stock weldmesh, which is stronger than chicken wire, and not too expensive either. Feeders, medicine, coop treatments etc can be purchased from CWG Countrywide store at Newark, Melton Mowbray or Darley Dale which ever is nearest to you. Layers pellets, Chicken Corn, Grit and Oyster shell can be found at Pets at home, Castle Marina Nottingham City centre.
Whereabouts in Nottinghamshire are you? 8)  Pete

Hi,

We live in Brinsley, which is close to the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border.

I can source feed and feeders ok and there are a numbers of poultry breeders locally, but can't find nest boxes (looking for those that fit inside the coup) and perches. I've seen nest boxes on the internet, but the postage makes them pricey

Can't help with nest boxes. I bought a sheet of marine plywood from the builders merchant and made all my coop nest boxes from that, it's quite easy and very cheap.
I am in Nottingham City Centre.
