Can anyone explain why my second early spuds, Maris Peer, are just about to flower  and my first early, Pentland Javelin, are barely through the soil?      Both planted on same day in a "New Area" of ground one row is half 2nd and half 1st early but the same applies throughout.

I'm growing exactly the same combination of spuds as you. I've found those planted at the same time are pretty much neck and neck.

How long did you chit the spuds for? If you didn't chit them for very long, then you're at the mercy of how long the seed spuds were out of storage.

Thanks for the response.    I never chit spuds so maybe you have hit the nail smack on the head in this case maybe my head.       The reason I don't chit is due to not having a room which is unheated this makes chitting a wee bit difficult in Central Scotland and I don't wish to store them on an outside window ledge as they will be frosted.
