I had the same problem - previous owner planted it in open ground and it took over. Like everyone else, I spent 4 years continually digging it out, chasing all root bits, and spraying glyphosphate every year. By year 5 it was all gone after a long battle. Couldn't believe it took that long, but it did. Mint is extremely determined once set free, which is why large pots on the patio is best as it can still slip out of a pot that's in the ground.

Why not use the mint instead of klilling it?? I make lots of apple and mint jelly every year.....put big stems in jugs of water in the kitchen along with lemon balm. ..to deter flies, mint tea, in salds, in Pimms......I love mint!Especially apple mint...

The only mint I like is in my candies. Otherwise, YUK! A bit of mint is okay to have around, but when half your plot is covered in it, then drastic measures are called for.
