HELOO
« on: May 29, 2011, 21:51 »
I  have just taken over a new allotment, in Colchester. I have found this site to be very helpfull & friendly.
I am having difficulty getting a shed for my plot as I dont want to buy one. I want to save money and recycling an old shed would be great. Any ideas? I have tried all the usual recyling web sites but no luck so far.

Hello pendel.  You could build a shed out of pallet wood, which can be obtained free if you ask permission (to take the pallets) in the right places. :)

have a drive round any industrial estate, if you see anywhere that has a pile of pallets or crates sitting there, its worth contacting them and asking. I once built a shed from packing crates aluminium window sections came in, each crate was 16 foot long and about 18" x 18" solid wood planks 3/4" thick. made the floor, walls roof, and even benches inside. The whole thing was waterproofed with a couple of rolls of cheap roofing felt from a reclamation yard. the biggest cost was for the nails to construct it.
