Planting the extra seed a bit later, is only my attempt to extend the picking a bit, cos I love them soooo much.
Did you put your seeds in the same hole, or give them a few inches between?
If there is a bit of a gap between then I'd just leave them to get on with it :)

This pic shows a sneaky peek at next doors runners to the left of mine. His were planted out earlier.

It's interesting to see that you and the neighbour are growing your beans in different directions. Have you any idea if that might make a difference too? If so, which direction are yours growing, is it north/south or east/west?

And yours look as if they've been protected by the broad beans, maybe it kept them a bit warmer?

My row goes north to south, and yes the broad beans to the west have certainly acted as a wind break, totally unplanned I admit.

After germination the tall ones were hardened off for a month before planting out.
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

I dont like to see bare earth between the plants. Used around a kilo of seed for a 24 foot row.

Very impressive indeed. Well done.

It certainly worked, something to try again next year  :)

My goal this year is to start picking beans on 1st July and harvest for 100 days.

The last 8 feet of the row, out of shot, is in to Rocket spuds and the runners to go there were planted (seeds) a week ago in carrier bags in large pots.
