galangal?

galangal?

Anyone grown this before? I got some from asda as a woops in a mixed bag of spices looks like Ginger but is harder and slightly pink, taste is completely different to anything iv had before and I want/need more! Any ideas on how to start it off would be great

Is it not a relative of ginger? Therefore growing methods would be similar.....

Of interest, if you're going down the root (sorry!) of growing Galangal, have you also considered Turmeric?, grown similarly it's very nice to cook with, and could find more uses (particularly if you like curry!). Stains like a mother, though :(

im thinking spices are the way forward to get best use of space indoors and out! growing my dad a naga chilli for his birthday since he eats them by the bucket full! even tho we buy most of our spices from asian and indian stores which is a bit cheaper then supermarket it is still expensive so the more i can grow the better
