Planting out courgettes

When planting out courgettes/squashes, can I bury the stems a bit? The ones I have are a bit straggly and weak looking, and I wondered whether I could make them stronger by burying them when I (finally, frost/gales/hail permitting!!!) plant them out.

No problems with those, not recommended with cucumbers though as they are very susceptible to stem rot.
