New to Allotments in Shropshire
« on: May 24, 2011, 14:38 »
Hello all
Next week we take over our first allotment!!

These are brand new allotments, we have to clear a few weeds away first.

What jobs would you recomend I do first plot is approx 10m x 6m how much manure should I put on and what type?
also
the allotment is in the country next to a farmers field, do you think I should post and put up chicke wire to stop rabbits getting in??

All help/suggestions much appreciated

Welcome to the site  :D

This page from the main website (click growing help underneath the top banner) contains useful articles on planning and clearing your plot
http://www.allotment-garden.org/growing_information.php

Don't put manure where you want to grow carrots or parsnips (though you're too late to sow parsnips now).

Rabbits will be attracted to your crops so you will need to install rabbit-proof fencing, I think.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
