Soya free feed
« on: May 23, 2011, 22:29 »
Hi all,
I'm very new and am looking into the best way of feeding my soon to be here hens.
Currently I'm reading "Chicken coops for the soul" where soya free feed is used and then greens substitute the additives, it was a muesli type feed. Anyone advise???

Hi Vicky, soya is added to the food to increase the protein.  It would be very difficult to substitute soy for greens in this case.

You can get OGM free food, if this is a concern :)

Modern compound feeds are specialy formulated to have the optimal nutrition, so although it is possible to fed your hens "straights" it would be more difficult to get the balance of nutrients correct to maintain a healthy hen.
