buying leek plants
« on: May 23, 2011, 08:16 »
Due to a chicken related accident!!! i am in need of leek plants. I have seen them advertised on the internet for roughly £2.00 for 15 + p+p. Is this a bit steep???

It is probably what you will pay in a garden centre.

Gosh! Now I know why the price is so high...people are willing to pay it! Postage will be a couple more quid which means your tiny leeks are costing over 20p each and that's before they're growed........
I know it's an emergency but could'nt you ask around your local lotty or Freecycle or Gumtree?
There must be loads of people like me who grew too many and want to get rid!

I'd be inclined to sow loads now and then plant closer together for mini leeks. They will be smaller, but just use 2 or 3 instead of one :)

Do you have a local market that may sell some?

Just been up the lotment and some of the scratched up leek plants seem to be recovering, so i will leave them in the seed bed and see what happens!!!. Chuckie the chicken is in disgrace, i only let her out of her run for a treat.......
Will try the local WI stall at the market in town tomoz. :D
