Comfrey and Nettles
« on: May 22, 2011, 22:24 »
Can i use comfrey and docking leaves to make a fertiliser or am i just better to use comfrey.

We have loads of docking leaves available in the wood next to our allotments and seems just a waste.

I'm going to make some Gesar, (without comfrey). Nettles have a lot of nitrogen and other nutrients and need a good soak for a few weeks. The result is pretty potent as well, so you'll need to dilute it 10 - 1.

There's a lot of info here on AVG about it!

Good luck!

I'm a tad confused here.

Thread titile says nettles, text talks about dock leaves. Which do we mean?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Sorry my bad we have both docking leaves and nettles in abundance next to the allotment probably about 1/4 mile of wooded area maybe just 250ft wide.

So is it possible to add all of the above in the brew Comfrey,Docking Leaves and Nettles.

Would it be better if i made the concentrated version and just bottled it and added a few drops while watering?

Can i use this brew on all vegetables ?

Nettle tea and comfrey tea are old favorites for use as plant feeds. I seem to remember that the comfrey has more potassium and less nitrogen than the nettle tea so a mix of both might be suited as a general feed. I have not read much about dock leaves but I guess they most have some goodness in them. Check out the link on this site for comfrey use http://www.allotment-garden.org/vegetable/comfrey/index.php

I have a bath on my plot that I add lots of nettle and comfrey leaves too and that's what I water with. I top it up with water when needed, give it a stir and add more leaves once a month and the crops love it! So definitely worth a try.....but like others I haven't tried dock leaves.
