Hi there.

Letting quite a few of the beans stay on and they are getting bigger all the time, I want to keep some for seeds next year.

How do I go about doing this? Do I leave them on untill they drop off or is there a time to take them off and get the beans out, also  :shock:  what then? Do I put them in the airing cupboard to dry them out or just leave them?

What type of beans please?

I'm going to assume runner beans, but the same applies to dwarf bean.

I leave them on until the pods just start to turn brown, the seed is not going to do any more growing after this.

I'm not too sure about the airing cupboard as I think this can over dry the seed. I put them in a big tray in the kitchen and turn them frequently to bring the ones from the bottom to the top. (I seem to save more than I can lay out singly!)

When the pods have gone brittle - seeds out!

wait to turn crispy pods ,take em out and put them in a brown paper lined biscuit tin ....... i still have beans ( scarlet runner ) from 4 yrs ago in the same and they still come good

yep, runner beans. Sorry for the omission there!

So leave on untill brown. Pull them off, seeds out and dry in a tray.
