Some of my squash and pumpkins have died - they were holding their own but the wind has caused stem damage to some and they have become slug food. I think they would have survived the cool weather but cool plus wind has done it for them. My french beans have done nothing either. Hope the weather settles down a bit.

there is nothing like trying to replace snapped canes on your pea supports while bits of tree fly past you... i went up yesterday to see if my very crippled old greenhouse was still standing and maybe save any seedlings in it, it was, but its changed shape a fair bit! had to clamber over two fallen trees to get there, going to pop down just now and see if the rasps have survived, they were taking a beating yesterday.....
is pottering about a vocation?

My courgettes and sweetcorn survived the high winds yesterday - just a few damaged leaves on the courgettes. Today started OK then the high winds arrived again, followed up by the most almighty hail storm (about an hour ago) and even as I type we have another hail storm.  >:( >:(

Went down to the plot this morning, much trepadation after a night of battering winds.

I've got off lightly by the look of it - some minor damage to the greenhouse and a few squished cabbages from flying debris. My 7' high hedge has saved me from much worse damage.

Scorching sun, no rain and gale force winds so far this year. What next?  ???

Volcanic ash :(

I've decided to be positive.  Little plastic greenhouse safely stored in outhouse and will come out, when the wind dies down, to be used as a poly tunnel :D  Chickens are enjoying an unexpected selection of seedlings as are the rabbits :D  Our potatoes are in sacks so are undamaged :D  Tomato plants look a bit sorry, so they can be re-potted and have some TLC :D

Average wind speed forecast for Manchester tomorrow is 21mph gusting to 42mph, reducing to 16mph and 21mph on Tuesday.................... depending upon which forecast you use.

I think this estimate was a little on the conservative side   Felt like the roof was coming off yesterday afternoon and its really picking up again this aft :(  Luckily there doesn't seem to be much damage :)

To those people whose plastic greenhouse has blown away and broken don't bother buying a replacement cover as I did ::) their cheaper at wilko for the job lot.One use i've found for the green plastic mesh that are used as shelves is as a plant support for annual, perennial flowers.Just prop it up a foot or so above the plant and it will soon grow through it and hide it.So when the next gale comes along your flowers won't tople over atleast.

Have inspected the damage at my plot in Glasgow. Rhubarb stems nearly all broken, blackcurrants, red currants, gooseberries, rasps have all lost branches as well as having 30% of their leaves ripped off. Onions leaves snapped through, cloches ripped, but it could be worse!! At least sweetcorn and curcurbits are still under cover as it is still too cold to plant out here.

aelf, just to give you a heads up; you might want to spell the second last word as fertile rather than as you've done. If you check it out in the urban dictionary, you'll be happier to know the difference.  ;)
