Time To Batten Down The Hatches
« on: May 22, 2011, 16:15 »
Stormy weather is forecast for northern Ireland, Scotland and Northwest England tomorrow. PM is said to be the most stormy period with gusts up to 70 -80 MPH. Its a good idea to take some precautions today if you can.

I once got stuck in the middle of an hurricane in Mexico and the winds got up to 185MPH! Although we moan about the weather here from time to time we really are very fortunate 8)

very true - i was planning putting out beans this weekend but gave it a miss due to the wind

Same happened last year and the wind snapped their stemps where they met the soil

Yea already pretty windy here. Been out tying the beans to their wires, kale to sticks and weighing down the cloches. I don't mind any weather... Except wind - hate it. Bad for veg, garden, buildings, wildlife, walking, cycling, travel...

Urgh! My plastic greenhouse (which was housing all my seedling runner and french beans) blew over today - courgettes, sweet peppers and beans smashed to smithereens! Hate the wind...

Just went up to the allotment after my earlier disaster (plastic greenhouse blew over), and found the wendy house (to try and distract my 1 and 3 year old from pulling up seedlings!) had blown all over the plot - broke a couple of my newly-made raised beds and trashed a few plants.

Ho hum.

Blimmin' wind!

Good luck any of you in exposed and stormy areas...

We're used to wind in west Cumbria but severe gales in May!!!

I'm dreading what the garden will look like on Tuesday morning

Was very very windy today! Was potting on all my veg but the pots kept blowing away.. and then when planted in bigger pots the wind didnt really help to settle anything.. Hate to think what the onions at the plot look like.. the stems were starting to fall over already and its out in the open

It was blowing a gale all day here but seems to have died down somewhat - but this is the lull before the storm as the forecast for Monday/Tuesday is galeforce

Yep but it's double and treble that forecast not so much further north of you. Your forecast is nasty but you will live. Ours is dangerous and damaging.

Stupid stupid weather...we have hot sunshine and gales..........so the wind has blown the greenhouse window (opens automaticall above 23ish) off it's hinges

Luckily it jammed and I saw it before everything was smashed to pieces. I've disconnected the auto thingy and polytaped the window in place.........hope that holds it there till the wind drops and that the plants don't cook in the meantime  :(

I have been lucky, the only real casualties so far have been my courgettes which were a bit long stemmed and have snapped. To think that it was frost that was so worrying me with my early plantings.

The latest storm has just passed and the sun has come out but I am scared to go outside and see what else may have been damaged; it has been wild here.
