[SUTTY1]

This acer is about 7yrs old, growing in a 1metre/75ltr pot..its 1metre high and about 1.5 metre spread. The foliage is a beutiful healthy looking purple on top and as usual more green underneath.
The main trunk however has swellings all up it and a white mould /fungus growing on or ousing out of it. Any advice or help much appreciated

That's what I wondered, I had them all over my gooseberry bush, not at all nice

Have taken pics but given up trying to reduce in size and up load them,lol,

They do look like scale insects, 6mm and all stuck together in a sticky, slimey, web like gunge, yuck.

They are easily wiped off but what do i do with them and do i need to treat the plant?

Having a meal with a I.T. teacher on wednesday. Have to see if she will give me a lesson on photo conversion etc

Aunty you may have just solved a problem i recently posted about exactly the same problem
Seems i have this problem but am unsure if they have survived, could you tell me a solution to this??

I used the Provado Ultimate on the gooseberry bush, and now they are a bit dried up, so I think it has worked...I did give them a really good soaking though.

I will give the bush a winter wash to make sure they're gone for next year though

I pick them off of my Acers and squish them

But if its a big problem then you could spray them. I use the one Mum has sugested on all my nasty insects.
