« on: September 02, 2007, 19:11 »
My lovely girl started laying about 2 weeks ago, today the egg was slightly larger than usual and there was a bit of blood smeared on it, is this normal, if not what could it be?

If you have a cockerel, yes.

Blood spots are caused by the rupture of a blood vessel in the egg production mechanism.  It is not unusual and is nothing to worry about.  I just remove the blood (or mead spot) and use it as normal.  It will happen to hens who don't have a cockerel too
