Speedaway???
« on: May 14, 2011, 21:53 »
Hi all... I was speaking to one of the older guys today about my problem with mares/horsetail, and he told me he used to have the same problem when he got his plot about 10 years ago.
He bought a weedkiller called 'Speedaway' and claims it got rid of his problem after two applications.... he has offered to spray my plot, but i'm a little bit concered about it...
I have tried to look it up on this site and googled it but with no success.... has anyone ever had any experience of it, or even heard of it...
Cheers

I've Googled "Speedaway weedkiller" & got several hits.

It contains paraquat which is banned.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Cheers DD... I was searching for Speedaway, not Speedway, hence the reason for getting ' no hits'.
Anyway, it seems to be used for 'soft' weeds and grasses, and some sites recommend Roundup for more persistant weeds, however, that hasnt worked for me, despite using the 'ultra' concentrate and giving numerous applications over the past 2 years....
I guess it wouldnt be as 'effective' as roundup....

Well................. it works!!!  :D
I Sprayed 'Speedway2' an patch of unworked ground on Saturday morning which has numerous types of weed/grasses in it and they were dead/dying by this afternoon.... needless to say all neccessary precautions were taken when spraying, correct clothing, mask, no wind etc etc....
Now I have found something that kills marestail.. I can start using ground that has stood empty for fear of it coming back time after time....  :D :D

According to this Speedaway2 contains glyphosate, same as Roundup.

If it doesn't come back, I think you'll have a first on your hands.

Mare's Tail roots can go down metres - the chemical just doesn't get that far.

This claims to get rid of marestail. Expensive, but enough for up to 1000m2.

I sometimes suspect that the really 'big ask' would be to stumble on a topic that hasn't been discussed on this forum already!
