Getting ex-batts to eat pellets
« on: May 13, 2011, 12:04 »
I bought a cheap bag of crumb for my new ex-batts, till they get used to the BWHT layer pellets.  The daft chickens devour the crumb like it is a  treat and ignore the pellets.  Do I need to buy them more crumb or  can I just leave them with the pellets?  (I've had the chooks since last sunday.)

Mix the pellets with the crumb in increasing proportion until they are on all pellets after about three weeks or so.  Persist and they will accept pellets it's just that upto now they've only known mash.

I only did it the once, half crumb half pellet, next day pellet, they figured it out soon enough.
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

i would think its the same as introducing new diet to most animals or even a baby
do it gradualy over a week say ,adding more of the new food each day
so as not to upset their system

crumb and pellet are the samething.
One is just ground to powder, the other is pressed into shapes
