Cuttle fish

Can I hang a cuttle fish bone in the poot run for them to peck at?

you are ok with the pet shop ones but the ones you can find at the beach will be too salty  :)

i have used the ones from the beach whenever i could find them in suffolk .i soaked them in a bucket warm water for a day then rinsed under a cold tap and just let them dry in the greenhouse . my birds loved them we used to find dozens about 2 weeks after a reallly bad storm on kessingland beach ;)

I suppose you could soak and rinse then taste them yourself to see if you've got rid of the salt! 

Apparently with acorns you should soak them to get rid of the tannins before feeding to livestock.  The best way to tell if they're ready for feeding is to taste them yourself.  When all the bitterness has gone they're ready.

I went out to get mine steak and chips from the pub but it tasted soooo nice I eat it all there and then  :lol:
