Feather loss due to treading

Hi Christine, yes, she will probably go off lay until the feathers have regrown (if the cockerel has been taken away)  As it takes protein to make both eggs and feathers, one usually suffers because of the other.  So if she is regrowing feathers egg production will decrease.

You can help a bit  by feeding a higher protein feed than usual (non-medicated chick or turkey crumbs, or soy meal, or a little beef or fish cat food).
