Tree seeds in compost
« on: May 08, 2011, 13:26 »
Hi

Our neighbour has a huge tree in his garden. Not sure what type it is I'm afraid. It's just dropped a million green pods in my garden. I assume these are it's seeds. A load of them have blown into my compost bin. I'm not planning on using the compost until Autumn so do you guys think I'm safe and the heat will kill the seed? Otherwise I assume I'll end up having tree seedlings growing in the compost.

Depends on the seeds (tree species) and how hot your compost bin gets.

Our home-grown compost gives us a lovely crop of tomato seedling for very little effort  ::)
