I don't think so, could it have had frost on it, followed by early morning sun?

It's a Mediterranean plant so loves the sun.  Like mum says, it might not appreciate the frost followed by full sun.  Mine died completely over winter and I had to buy a new one.

All of the gardens I've visited recently (including my sainted mother-in-law's!) have lost their rosemary over the harsh winter we just had. Even Monty Don was pulling his out and replacing it on Gardener's World last night!

As well as frost, they can get too dry as well. Normally they don't care for much water, but if you're getting a very dry season, the occasional deep watering will keep them in top shape. Particularly if it's potted.

I think of all the winter hazards cold winds are the most damaging; my rosemary bush (and the bay near to it) are sheltered by the house from northerly winds but not from easterly winds.

Both came through the severe cold and snow of last December without a murmur, but both got "scorched" by the easterly winds in February on that side of the plants (the bay more so than the rosemary; it lost quite a few leaves but is starting to re-grow now.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I'll have to have another look at my Rosemary on the plot. It has some browning but I can't remember if it is the side that is caught by the winds or just general splattering.

The one in the garden, all neatly shaped and trimmed and upright (due to the OH's care), is as green as some sort of bluey-green grass as it is well protected.

There are more than one type of rosemary so maybe some are hardier than others. Mine's common  ::)
