potatoes
« on: May 04, 2011, 15:34 »
Hi, im growing potatoes in grow bags/pods, they have flurished and the bag is now full with compost...the shoots have continued to bellow out...do i cut these back in any way in order to concentrate the growth of the potatoes?

Im also growing red baron onions from sets. I have many planted and they all have around 5/6 leaves and are around 10-12 inches tall....i can see a good amount of the bulb, should i cover the bulbs completely now the shoots are growing fast...with the weather the way it is how often should i be watering?

Many thanks and many thanks on a great and informative forum!

Pete

Don't cut the potatoe leaves back just let them grow and feed and water well.

As for the onions you dont cover the bulbs, just water thoroughly every other day.

When you have done your final earth up of Bag Spuds, or shortly thereafter, I suggest you put 3 or 4 canes around the perimeter of the potato bags, and run a string around them, so the stems can't flop over the sides easily, which they have a tendency to do
