Definite frost here last night.  Still bits twinkling on the lawn right now.

Hope the greenhouse survived.  Hubby went to turn the heater off half an hour ago and said it was reading 8 degrees, so I'm hopeful.  Everything was fleeced.
Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

ive just been down to my lotty we had a minus 4 here with no warning i had signed up to frost watch etc and i was checking all the forcasts
since my spuds were earthed up to a height of nearly 2 feet with still another 4-5 inches of growth showing the frost had decimated all 21 rows there was no more earth to use
ive never felt so gutted  the reason that they had such fantastic growth was for the manure that i had put on last september

i really dont know if im going to carry on after this  all that work over 9 months probably gone to waste
the frost was that bad it even hit the onions and some maretail that looked like my spuds did
so good luck to you all and i hope that the frost does not visit you

Frost here in Tonbridge last night. Car windscreen quite white so fairly cold. I hope my fellow plot holders covered their spuds as there are a lot through with this warm weather...

You have plenty of buried stem which should have escaped the effects of the frost so there is every chance they will survive (although they will have been set back, of course.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Flitwickone.  As JayG said.  You may still get something.  Happened to me last year.  The spuds were flat and laying on the ground.  new shoots came through and I still had a crop.  Sure it was later and smaller.

Frost - potatoes frazzled!!!
I do not know how cold it got last night but all the potatoes on the allotment are scorched even under 2 layers of fleece. Anything uncovered or just with enviromesh cut to the ground.

The tips of peas about a foot high have been burned - never seen that before.

Another frost forecast tonight but then the forecast is warmer. Even talking of rain next week.

There is a name for this time in May when we get a sharp frost or two, St somebodys winter - does anyone know?

Same here Salmo, tips burned away on half a row, but fared better on the slope...

Toms seem OK, but they were covered after a panic visit last evening after Mrs Growster announced the weather forecast in no uncertain terms...

Just come back from my plot - I'd covered  the potatoes with a single layer of fleece and the frost still nipped one or two leaves but other plots around me with no protection have really been hard hit.

My mother says: "Snow on Christmas Day - then a frost to come in May"

What a load of old..... cold weather  ::)
