Royal Potatoes Harvested 29/4/11
« on: April 29, 2011, 18:38 »
With today being the royal wedding day I decided to harvest some Swift potatoes that had been growing in the greenhouse during the winter. The crop is not huge but they have been harvested a bit too soon and there were plenty more tubers forming which would have been great in a few weeks time.

Anyway here is the video CL9xYyJ-U7M

Here is a picture of them before they get a wash and get thrown in the pan.

Well I decided last November that it would be a great idea to plant some potatoes that I had left lying about so I put 4 into a polypot and nothing much really happened. The leaves did appear but got nipped by the frost as my greenhouse is unheated.
I placed some bubble wrap over the top of the bag and every so often I remembered to water them until all of a sudden here was this mass of potato haulms in the greenhouse.

If I had really fed and looked after them properly then I am sure the harvest would have been even better. Another couple weeks of growth would also have given me a better harvest.

The plan is tomorrow that I will give them a quick wash and pop them in a pan of boiling water and then eat them with a side of butter.
