It may sound a silly question but why are my eggs so hard to peel after boilling them

Are my hens lacking in something

Ooo, I know the answer to this, the egg's too fresh

and there are no silly question in chicken keeping

Think they need to be about 4 days old before you can shell them. We have started using a sharp knife to cut them down the middle and them scoop out the egg with a teaspoon (well we only get tiny eggs)

If you leave them a week before hard boiling them they will be easier to shell

I also think certain hens or breeds of hens produce eggs that are easier to peel. I have one hen that produces eggs that I know will peel easily when fresh and several others that produce eggs that are impossible to peel unless left for a week or so.
