A fine mesh net to keep the butterflies off in the first place.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

1. A badminton racket to keep the butterflies off in the first place.

2a. Rubber gloves required.  Crush any groups of eggs you see.

2b. Crush any groups of young caterpillars you see.

2c. Remove any large caterpillars to a bucket of salty water.

Thank you very much I saw about the salt water on one of the handy tip things. About putting salt water on them but I saw that you didn't think that it was a good idea for the soil. I'll pick off the eggs but will have to get my neighbour to carry out the mass murder bit I cant kill things. Thanks for the tips  :D

I don't like killing things either Shamina, but when it comes to saving my brassicas, well, I keep my badmington racquet handy in the greenhouse too!!!!

Actually, its not my badmington racquet, but my ex-hubby's!!!!! lol

I'm afraid I just squish the caterpillars - a quick death, so not unkind to them  :?

I have been known to ask why it is that we are always being told about nice  pretty butterflies becoming extinct, but cabbage whites thrive. I would be quite happy to see cabbage whites being a very endangered species.

Of course I know the answer to that one - we spend a lot of time & effort providing food for the cabbage whites!!! :x

A little salt will not affect your soil. Do this. One tablespoon to 2 gallons of water. The salt is taken in to the plant leaves making it not nice for the pesky creatures. As the plants mature, the salt will be lost from the leaves so the edible brassicas won't be tainted. Hope this help. Works for me.
I CAME LATE TO THIS GAME, BUT IT'S IN THE BLOOD. I TRY TO BE ORGANIC BUT SORRY HAVE TO USE THE SLUG PELLETS.
