I have a wide, shallow tray of water in my chickens' run and they drink out of it but never bathe in it.  Even in summer when we had temperatures in the low 30s they seemed happy just to mooch around in the shade and drink a lot, but not splash in the water.

Personally I would have loved a little paddling pool when it was hot!

At the moment (cool autumn days) blackbirds and thrushes have been using the girls' drinking bowl as a bath.  ::)

hiya i have loads of hens who were very hot a grumpy a few weeks ago when we got the first nice hot day the tray is 2'x18 inch and deepth is 3 inch it's just a seed tray.

but filled that with water and let them havea go with it most the time they drink from it but we keep it filled then we went in to the run picked up a fav hen well husband did his poland and stood her init and she was like hey what and hubby let go and she marched around it and then sat down in it then popped out and went about her chicken things.

our lavender araucana loves it the most but all the hens jump in and walk around in it some sit some splash around some just stand others just drink.
