Available allotment in Stamford, Lincs?
« on: April 22, 2011, 22:11 »
Hi all! I am totally new to all of this....I have just started growing veg in pots in my "garden". My garden is basically a path, now full of pots!

I was googling Stamford allotments, and this site came up, as Tungster was advertising half their plot a few years ago.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any spare ground round here in Stamford, as I would love to spend some time gardening and harvesting, and my little space is not really adequate!

It's a long shot, I know, but I figured if you don't ask.....

Thanks in advance for any help!

I suggest you contact your local parish or town council to ask what the position is.  There are almost certain to be waiting lists that you can join - it clearly wouldn't be fair for you to jump the queue.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks. I have been trying to find info on the town council website, and although they have maps of plots (240 of them!) there is nothing about how to get on waiting lists and prices, etc. I shall have to wait till after the bank hol and give them a call.
Until then, I shall keep watching my little garden grow!
Thanks again!

In the meantime, have you googled (or searched on here) the term 'square foot gardening'?  It's a phrase to describe getting the maximum from the smallest areas.

The site owner, John, has also written a book on growing veg / herb / fruit in small spaces - you can get the details by clicking on the Our Books link near the top of the page, or any other bookseller.

And welcome to the site  :D

Will do that now! There seems to be so much on the internet that keeps me from going to bed!

Thanks again for the welcome and advice!
